At the helm of the innovative Oliver Zeter winery in Germany’s Pfalz region is a winemaker who plays by his own rules. “Petz” is a quirky field-blend and nod to Zeter’s great-grandfather's nickname, combining Syrah and Merlot (specifically 85% Syrah, 15% Merlot) grown on limestone slopes in Edenkoben and Hambach. It’s the kind of wine where traditional expectations are flipped, vineyards managed sustainably, minimal intervention, and a joyful spirit. The grapes are hand‐harvested, destemmed and fermented together in vats, then aged for 12 months in wooden barrels and bottled unfiltered to retain character and texture.
On the nose you’ll find blackberry, plum and dark cherry, layered with hints of liquorice, graphite and wild herbs. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with rich fruit upfront, fine-grained tannins and a savoury, lingering finish of spice and supple leather.
Perfect with grilled sausages, peppered steak, mushroom ragú or aged Gouda.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
