Pasión de Bobal DO Utiel-Requena 2023

Pasión de Bobal is a powerful, polished expression of one of Spain’s most characterful native grape varieties. Made exclusively from the oldest, low-yielding Bobal vines on the Fuenteseca estate in Utiel-Requena, this wine showcases the depth and complexity that mature vines can deliver when farmed with care and restraint.

The vineyards lie on loamy plains rich in red clay and ancient soils that give structure and intensity to the fruit. Yields are carefully controlled to preserve the natural balance of the vineyard, with organic practices employed and harsh chemicals avoided. Fermentation takes place in barrel, followed by malolactic fermentation and six months’ ageing in French barriques, adding polish and depth while allowing the bold fruit character of Bobal to shine.

An intense and inviting nose of ripe blackberry and plum is complemented by sweet vanilla and subtle spice. The palate is rich and well-balanced, layered with dark fruit, toasty oak and smooth, rounded tannins. A generous, lifted finish brings freshness and length to this bold, modern style of Bobal.

Ideal with full-flavoured beef or lamb dishes, grilled meats, or alongside hard cheeses and quality charcuterie.
