This old-vine Riesling from Rainer Wess is a focused and expressive example of Kremstal terroir. Sourced from mature vines ("Alte Reben") rooted in primary rock soils around Krems, the 2018 vintage delivers both intensity and finesse.
Aromatically vibrant, the wine opens with notes of white peach, ripe citrus, and apricot, underscored by hints of wild herbs and wet stone. The palate is dry, precise, and elegant, showing fine-tuned acidity and a mineral-driven backbone. There's a lovely interplay between ripe fruit and crisp tension, leading to a long, clean finish with a touch of salinity.
The 2018 vintage, marked by warmth and ripeness, is beautifully handled here—showcasing depth without losing the signature Riesling clarity. Ideal with Asian cuisine, shellfish, or roasted vegetables, this wine will also reward cellaring over the next 5–8 years.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
