Restless river has quickly reached cult status among many South African wine lovers, although they haven't been around that long the wines they have created are of the highest quality. The vines they look after are some of the oldest in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. This coastal region far away from the bulk producers based around Cape Town is highly regarded as one of the best climates to produces wines from.
The Chardonnay grapes were harvested by hand and gently whole bunch pressed using an old Vaslin basket press. Spontaneous fermentation took place in 500L French oak barrels and the wine was left to mature for 11 months in larger Burgundy barrels (5% new).
Elegant aromas of wet stone, citrus peel and lemon tart. On the palate, vibrant acidity is rounded gently by supple texture from the barrel ferment. A core of well-defined fruit leads to a long and intense finish.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
