Ronco del Gnemiz Chardonnay Friuli Colli Orientali Ronco Basso 2024

Ronco del Gnemiz is a small, quality-focused estate in the Colli Orientali hills of Friuli, known for working carefully with old vineyards rooted in the region’s distinctive ponca soils of marl and sandstone. The winery’s approach centres on expressing these sites with precision: fermentations are spontaneous, oak is used with restraint, and the wines are allowed to develop texture and depth through patient time on lees.

“Ronco Basso” comes from a slightly lower-lying site that tends to give Chardonnay a touch more breadth and ripeness while still retaining the estate’s hallmark precision.

Ronco Basso shows a clear straw colour with a soft golden tint. The nose is finely layered, offering ripe orchard-fruit tones, peach, pear, alongside citrus zest and a faint floral accent. Beneath the fruit sits a quiet mineral note that gives the aromas definition without making them sharp. On the palate the wine is supple yet focused, the fruit feels ripe but controlled, carried by lively acidity and a gentle sense of weight from its time on lees. There’s a subtle savoury edge, almost saline, that adds depth as the wine moves across the palate. The finish is long, clean and well-balanced, leaving an impression of fresh stone fruit and understated minerality.
