Sa Raja Cannonau di Sardegna 2020

Sa Raja is a new project whose heart is a 49 hectare estate in the Gallura region of northern Sardinia where founder Mark Hartmann and renowned agronomist Federico Curtaz have, after just 3 vintages, established it as one of Sardinia’s most exciting small producers.

This Cannonau, also known as Grenache, is from a single vineyard in Romangia in northwest Sardinia, an area renowned for high quality Cannonau. The 100% Cannonau grapes are sourced from relatively low-lying vineyards. Grapes are typically hand-harvested at the start of September, and are then destemmed and macerated for 14 days. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel along with some malolactic fermentation too. The wine spends 2 months on fine lees with batonnage, then a further 4 months in stainless steel, before being released after 2 months in bottle.
