Umathum has been recognised as one of Austria's very top producers for the last three decades. The family's diligence in their Neusiedlersee vineyards is one of their greatest assets - they grow to biodynamic principles and regularly experiment with new clones and techniques.
No expense is spared in the winery either, with large new-oak barrels made in league with seasoned forest farmers and coopers. This bottle is made from Zweigelt, a grape variety that is widely grown in Austria and is a cross between two other grape varieties: St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch. Fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks using naturally occurring indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in large wooden barrels.
Aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries and blackberries with hints of chocolate, black pepper, herbs and earthy notes. Dry and medium bodied with medium acidity and soft tannins. More berry fruits and hints of coffee.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
