Adolph Huesgen proudly upholds his family's illustrious winemaking legacy in the Mosel, dating back to an impressive lineage since 1735, spanning nine generations. Nestled within the picturesque setting of Traben-Trarbach lies the family's cherished abode, a stunning Art-Nouveau residence designed by Bruno Möhring in the early 20th century, during an era when this quaint town rivaled Bordeaux in wine trading prominence.
Villa Huesgen presides over 65 hectares of vineyards exclusively dedicated to the cultivation of Riesling, boasting vines that have flourished for up to seventy years. Adolph's visionary approach extends to acquiring new vineyard plots, guided by historical maps commissioned by none other than Napoleon Bonaparte, which continue to define the region's premier viticultural sites.
This expansion is directed towards enriching the renowned Schiefer Riesling and Kabinett varieties, rather than introducing new labels. Harvests are meticulously conducted by hand, supplemented by a green harvest in early summer to ensure optimal grape quality. The result is a dry, contemporary expression of Riesling.
On the nose, it exudes a bouquet of fresh, vibrant fruit, punctuated by nuanced notes of apricot and peach, underscored by a distinctive minerality. On the palate, it delights with its juicy texture, balanced by refined acidity, offering a balance of depth and length. This 100% Riesling epitomizes the essence of the Mosel terroir.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
