Waterstone Winery, founded in 2000, aims to create high-quality, affordable wines by leveraging their strong relationships with Napa Valley growers and vintners. Unlike many in the industry, they focus on winemaking rather than owning vineyards or facilities, emphasizing varietal character and balance in their wines. Their success is attributed to dedicated winemaking and long-term grape contracts with top growers.
This Merlot's core originates from the Truchard Vineyard in Carneros, right at the base of the Mayacamas mountain range. Thanks to the small, concentrated berries from low-yield vines, the wine offers rich flavour and excellent aging potential. Both vineyards are on long-term contracts, ensuring consistency across vintages. This Merlot boasts complex aromas and flavours, including ripe black cherries, freshly baked brioche, vanilla bean, and dark chocolate. It's a medium-bodied wine with velvety tannins and a lingering finish of fresh blackberries.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
