Easter Wine & Chocolate Pairings

Easter Wine & Chocolate Pairings

Easter is one of the most joyful moments in the food and drink calendar. As spring arrives and tables fill with seasonal treats, chocolate inevitably takes centre stage, from delicate truffles to nostalgic white chocolate bars. While chocolate is often paired with dessert wines or simply enjoyed on its own, the right wine (or even spirit) can elevate those sweet flavours into something truly special.

At Butler’s, we’ve picked a few unexpected but delicious Easter pairings, matching distinctive wines and spirits with exceptional chocolates. Whether you’re building an Easter hamper, planning a long weekend treat, or simply looking for something indulgent to enjoy after Sunday lunch, these combinations are guaranteed to bring a little extra joy to the season.

Brachetto & Strawberry Chocolate

Alasia Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG 2024
paired with strawberry dark chocolate from Lily's Chocolate Box right here in Brighton.

Few wines feel as joyful and spring-like as Brachetto d’Acqui. Lightly sparkling, gently sweet and wonderfully aromatic, it bursts with notes of fresh raspberries, rose petals and strawberries.

That makes it a perfect match for strawberry-infused dark chocolate. Strawberries sourced from France and the UK, the berry flavours in the chocolate echo the wine’s natural fruitiness, while the wine’s lively acidity keeps the pairing fresh rather than overly sweet. The delicate fizz lifts the richness of the chocolate, creating a combination that feels light, playful and completely irresistible.

Fruit mirrors fruit, acidity balances sweetness, and the gentle sparkle keeps everything bright and refreshing.

Perfect for Easter brunch, afternoon treats, or a sunny garden moment.

Pinot Noir & Milk Chocolate

Soli Miroglio Pinot Noir Thracian Valley 2022
paired with milk chocolate from Tony's Chocolonely

Milk chocolate can be surprisingly tricky to pair, but Pinot Noir often works beautifully thanks to its soft tannins and vibrant red fruit character.

This Bulgarian Pinot Noir from the Thracian Valley brings silky cherry and raspberry notes, along with gentle spice and a smooth texture. When paired with creamy milk chocolate, the wine’s bright fruit lifts the cocoa flavours while the softness of the chocolate rounds out the wine’s acidity. Tony's is a great choice, they are a fantastic company working to end Cocoa exploitation across the world, this is not just a classic milk chocolate bar either, but the first bar they ever made, back in 2005.

The result is balanced, comforting and incredibly moreish, a grown-up twist on a childhood favourite.

Soft tannins and bright red fruit complement the creamy richness of milk chocolate without overpowering it.

Perfect for Easter movie nights or post-dinner indulgence.

Pedro Ximénez & Caramel Almond Truffles

El Candado Pedro Ximénez Valdespino
paired with Almond Caramel truffles from Booja-Booja

When it comes to decadent pairings, Pedro Ximénez sherry is hard to beat. Made from sun-dried grapes, it delivers luxurious flavours of raisins, molasses, toffee and coffee with extraordinary richness.

Pairing it with almond caramel truffles creates a spectacular harmony. The sticky sweetness of the wine mirrors the caramel centre, while nutty notes echo the almonds. Meanwhile, the wine’s gentle acidity prevents the pairing from becoming cloying.

The result is pure indulgence, a pairing that feels like liquid dessert.

Caramel, nuts and PX’s natural raisin sweetness form a seamless flavour bridge.

Perfect for after-dinner Easter treats or a luxurious nightcap.

Tequila & White Chocolate

Cabo Maya Plata Tequila
paired with white chocolate from Nestlé Milkybar

White chocolate might not be the first thing you think of when pairing with tequila, but the combination can be surprisingly delicious.

Cabo Maya Plata Tequila is a premium tequila made of 100% of Agave Azul Tequilana Weber ANDoffers bright agave freshness with hints of citrus and pepper, cutting beautifully through the creamy sweetness of white chocolate. The contrast between the spirit’s crisp energy and the chocolate’s buttery texture creates a playful and refreshing balance.

White chocolate’s vanilla sweetness softens the tequila’s edge, allowing the agave character to shine in a surprisingly elegant way.

Sweet creaminess meets crisp, herbal brightness for a contrast that keeps each bite and sip interesting.

Perfect for Easter cocktails, late-night treats, or adventurous pairings.

A Sweet Easter Tradition

Wine and chocolate might seem like an unusual pairing at first, but when the flavours align, the results can be magical. From sparkling berry-driven wines with fruit chocolate to rich sherries with caramel truffles, there’s a whole world of combinations waiting to be explored.

This Easter, why not try something a little different? Whether you’re sharing with friends, building a thoughtful gift hamper, or simply treating yourself, these pairings prove that great wine and great chocolate are always better together.

Happy Easter from all of us at Butler’s Wine Cellar
