Domaine Felettig Chambolle Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2021

Few Domaines have experienced as remarkable a transformation in recent vintages as Henri Felettig. From humble beginnings as a vineyard worker, Henri founded the Domaine in 1974. Since then, his children Gilbert, overseeing viticulture and vinification, and Christine, managing commercial aspects, have joined him, taking the reins in 1993. Together, they oversee a sprawling 12.5-hectare estate, comprised of an astonishing 100 individual parcels.

The Domaine has embraced organic viticulture, eschewing herbicides and insecticides in favour of sustainable practices. The majority of their vines, aged between 40 and 50 years, are meticulously tended by hand. Following meticulous selection, with grapes sorted both in the vineyard and cuverie. Under Gilbert's guidance, the Domaine has adopted a gentler approach, favouring limited pumping over. This dedication to precision and purity is evident in their wines, which exhibit a remarkable level of finesse and expression of terroir.

Chambolle-Musigny, the village known for its perfumed and silky style, is their forte but thankfully their prices are yet to reach the heights of others in Chambolle. Their Vieilles Vignes village wine is sourced from 15 old vine parcels totalling around 3 hectares. They use a portion of whole clusters in the fermentation, changing each vintage but typically around a third, to add delicate structure and further complexity.

A sublimely elegant wine, not overblown by the warm vintage at all. Abundant red and black berry fruit, particularly raspberry with a fine framework of subtle oak and beautiful wildflower notes. In typical Chambolle fashion the flavours maintain excellent intensity and persistence whilst having an almost weightless feel thanks to the supple tannin and fine acidity. As this opens up in the glass further layers of complexity are unveiled in earthy and herbal tones.
