Each grape is hand-selected from vineyards across A Peroxa (Portas) and Val do Salnés, regions known for their distinctive terroirs that shape the wine’s unique personality. Viña Almirante is a cooperative of 80 families, united by their dedication to Albariño winemaking. Inspired by historical exploration and emotional cartography, they have built a legacy that honours the past while embracing innovation. Since their founding in 2000, they have worked tirelessly to create wines that reflect the region’s rich history and express the purity of their terroir.
Sofia Albariño shimmers in the glass with a straw-yellow hue and bright greenish reflections. The nose is intriguingly complex, offering ripe stone fruit aromas alongside delicate hints of vanilla, lavender, and lemon verbena. On the palate, it begins with a crisp, vibrant entry, unfolding into a broad, fluid mouthfeel with a lingering fragrant elegance. Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. Not only did their wonderful team organise and deliver within an incredibly tight deadline they drafted a message for me too which I approved. Wonderful!!

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
