A classic expression of Rioja Baja, this Crianza from is made predominantly from Tempranillo, with a small portion of Garnacha adding extra perfume and weight. The fruit comes from mature vines around 40 years old on the slopes of the Sierra Yerga, just south of the River Ebro, giving both concentration and freshness.
After a long maceration, the wine is aged for 12 months in a mix of American and French oak barrels, followed by a further year in bottle before release, helping to integrate fruit, spice and structure.
In the glass it shows generous aromas of ripe black fruit, cherry and plum, layered with warm vanilla, toasted oak and gentle spice. The palate is smooth and approachable, with juicy red and dark berry flavours supported by fresh acidity and fine, supple tannins. Balanced, rounded and classically styled, it finishes with lingering notes of sweet spice and fruit.
A versatile food wine, it pairs especially well with roast chicken, pork and game dishes.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful.
