Duncan Savage, previously the winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, introduced his own label in 2011 with a goal to produce rock-solid, classic and elegant wines. Through his time at Cape Point, Duncan grew to understand maritime vineyards, which led him to source grapes for Savage wines from maritime and high altitude sites around the Western Cape.
A pure and expressive Syrah from the Langverwagt farm in Kuils River, on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Aromas of tobacco leaf, clove and incense lead into a poised palate of dark berries, plum and olive tapenade. Half the bunches are left whole during fermentation, adding spice and lift to the supple fruit core. This is a finely detailed red that balances ripeness and restraint. If you are a fan of previous vintages you'll love the purity and elegance of this year in comparison.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
