Celebrate the First Wines of the Vintage!
Every November, wine lovers across the globe raise a glass to Beaujolais Nouveau Day, the official release of the very first wines from the new vintage in France’s Beaujolais region. It’s a moment of pure celebration: bright, juicy reds bottled just weeks after harvest, made to be shared, enjoyed, and toasted with friends.
This year, Beaujolais Nouveau Day falls on Thursday 20th November 2025, and as always, we’re joining the festivities at Butlers with two fantastic bottlings, showcasing the tradition and fun that this time of year is all about.
The 2025 Vintage
The 2025 growing season in Beaujolais has been a rollercoaster. Vignerons faced the full spectrum of weather conditions:
-
Hailstorms in May damaged some vineyards.
-
A humid Spring encouraged outbreaks of mildew.
-
Then came extreme heat in July and August, with hardly any rain, stressing the vines.
-
Finally, heavy downpours in late August and early September added even more drama.
Despite all this, harvest began earlier than usual on Friday 29th August, with growers dodging the rain to bring in grapes of good quality. While yields are expected to be lower than normal, there will still be plenty of lively, fresh Beaujolais Nouveau to enjoy this November, proving once again the resilience and determination of Beaujolais winemakers.
What is Beaujolais Nouveau?
Made from the Gamay grape, Beaujolais Nouveau is all about celebrating the harvest. These wines are smashed out in just a few weeks using carbonic maceration, which brings out their trademark vibrant fruitiness, light body, and joyful freshness.
Think crunchy red berries, hints of bubble-gum and violets, soft tannins, and lively acidity, wines that make you smile from the very first sip. Best served slightly chilled, they’re perfect partners for charcuterie boards, veggie dishes, or even your festive turkey later in the season.
