June is for Indies: Introducing Casa Relvas – Passion & Portuguese Charm
This June, we’re proud to take part in "June is for Indies", a nationwide celebration of independent wine shops and the incredible winemakers we champion. This month, we’re diving into a producer who captures everything we love about Portuguese wine: Casa Relvas.
Based in the heart of the Alentejo, this family-run winery delivers soul, sustainability, and serious value in a diverse range with something for everyone.
Meet Casa Relvas
Casa Relvas is a multi-generational family project rooted in the wild beauty of Alentejo, a warm and sunny region in southern Portugal known for its sweeping vineyards, cork forests, and olive groves.
The Relvas family started the winery in 1997 with a clear vision: produce honest, terroir-driven wines that respect tradition and protect the land. Today, they’re leading the way in sustainable farming and minimal intervention winemaking, while never compromising on quality or drinkability.
It doesn't matter if you're new to Portuguese wine or if like us you're already a fan,Casa Relvas offers a brilliant introduction to the region’s character and charm.
The Wines: Herdade São Miguel Range
We’re particularly excited to feature two of their core wines this June, both excellent expressions of Alentejo’s diversity and style.
Herdade São Miguel Branco 2023
£15.49
A vibrant and zesty white made from native Portuguese grapes including Antão Vaz and Arinto, this wine bursts with citrus, ripe pear, and a touch of white blossom. There’s a lovely mineral finish and enough texture to stand up to grilled fish, herby chicken, or summer salads.
It’s clean, bright and beautifully balanced, a wine that overdelivers on freshness and finesse.
Herdade São Miguel Tinto Alentejo 2023
£15.49
This red is a fantastic showcase for Alentejo's warm climate. A blend of Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Trincadeira, it’s plush and juicy with black cherry, plum, and hints of spice and dark chocolate.
There’s enough structure here for BBQ meats or roasted veg, but it’s still soft and smooth enough to sip on its own. A seriously delicious crowd-pleaser.
