Granville Wine Co. Basalt Pinot Noir 2023

Granville Wine Co. is a boutique winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley, producing small-batch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a focus on sustainability and minimal intervention. Their aim is to showcase the distinctive character of the region, allowing the vineyards and their volcanic soils to be the main influence on the wines.

The Basalt Pinot Noir 2023 is made from carefully selected grapes grown on volcanic basalt soils across the Willamette Valley. The fruit is harvested at peak ripeness before being gently fermented to preserve its natural aromas and flavours. The wine is then aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, with a restrained use of new oak (15%), adding subtle spice and texture while allowing the vibrant fruit and mineral character to remain the focus.

Bright ruby in colour, this Pinot Noir has aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, alongside delicate floral notes and hints of forest floor and sweet spice. The palate is silky and elegant, with fresh red berry flavours supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. A touch of earthy minerality adds complexity, leading to a smooth, balanced finish with excellent freshness. It pairs well with duck, roast chicken, grilled salmon or mushroom-based dishes.
