English Wine Week 2025

English Wine Week 2025

English Wine Week 2025 – Celebrate the Best of Homegrown Wine

It’s that time of year again, English Wine Week is here (21st – 29th June 2025), and we’re raising a glass to some of the most exciting and expressive wines our country has to offer.

Once seen as a novelty, English wine is now a serious player on the world stage. From world-class sparkling wines to characterful still whites and intriguing reds, our homegrown bottles continue to impress, surprise, and delight. This week, we’re showcasing some of our favourite English wines – made by brilliant producers who are pushing the boundaries and celebrating our unique terroir.

Here are six standout English wines we think deserve the spotlight this English Wine Week:

Breaky Bottom ‘Manja Scott’ 2016

£44.00

From one of Sussex’s most iconic vineyards, Breaky Bottom is a true English original. Peter Hall has been crafting elegant, long-lived sparkling wines since the 1970s, and the Manja Scott is another triumph. Made from 100% Seyval Blanc, this bottle is all finesse, with citrus peel, green apple, brioche and a clean, persistent finish. Named in honour of a cherished family friend, it’s a wine with soul and sparkle.

Sugrue ‘The Trouble With Dreams’ Brut 2020

£51.95

A legend among English sparkling wines, Dermot Sugrue’s flagship cuvée continues to shine. Made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, The Trouble With Dreams is rich, complex and beautifully balanced, think lemon tart, baked apple, roasted hazelnut and chalky elegance. It’s an independent masterpiece from a winemaker who helped build Nyetimber and Wiston into icons. A perfect bottle for serious wine lovers.

Ridgeview ‘Still Chardonnay’ 2023

£29.95

Ridgeview is one of the most established names in English fizz, but their still wines are just as exciting. This unoaked Chardonnay is clean and expressive, with bright citrus, crunchy green apple and a subtle saline lift. Grown on the South Downs, it showcases the zesty, mineral side of English Chardonnay and makes an excellent pairing for seafood, salads or soft cheeses.

ARK Wines Pinot Gris 2022

£24.00

A fresh addition to our shelves and a really exciting find. ARK Wines, run by Alex and Rebecca (the A & R in ARK), are making low-intervention wines with a light touch and a clear sense of place. Their skin-contact Pinot Gris 2022 is crisp and aromatic, with pear skin, white blossom and a savoury finish. It’s quietly compelling and unlike most commercial Pinot Gris, a beautiful food wine that speaks softly but leaves an impression.

ARK Wines Chardonnay Bacchus 2021

£26.00

This is one of the most intriguing English whites we’ve tasted in a while, a blend of two very different varieties: Chardonnay and Bacchus. The result is a textured, fragrant white with elderflower and citrus from the Bacchus, grounded by the depth and spice of Chardonnay. It’s layered, elegant and totally unique, the kind of wine that keeps evolving in the glass. Small production and worth snapping up.

Artelium ‘Artefact #9’ Cabaret Noir 2023

£23.95

Red wine from England? Absolutely. Artelium’s Artefact #9 is a small-batch beauty made from the rare hybrid Cabernet Noir, and it’s a brilliant example of just how far English reds have come. Light-bodied and juicy with sour cherry, wild herbs and gentle spice, it’s bright, expressive and food-friendly, ideal slightly chilled with charcuterie, grilled veg, or a summer picnic.
