Bottles to Share (or Keep All to Yourself)
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about extravagant gestures, fixed menus or anything overly staged. At its best, it’s simply an excuse to slow things down a little, to cook something comforting, open a bottle you’ve been saving, or try something new together. It doesn't matter if it's a quiet night in, a meal shared with friends, or just treating yourself to something special, the right wine can help create that sense of occasion without any fuss.
We tend to think of Valentine’s wines as bottles with a bit of personality, wines that feel thoughtful, expressive and enjoyable from the first sip to the last. It might be something celebratory to start the evening, a beautifully balanced white for the table, or a red that brings warmth and depth as the night draws in. Most importantly, they’re wines made with care, by people who put heart into what they do.
With that in mind, we’ve selected a small handful of bottles that feel perfectly suited to Valentine’s Day. Each has its own story, a sense of place, and a style that invites sharing or, if you prefer, savouring slowly on your own.

Bee Tree Vineyard Pinot Meunier Rosé 2019
Sussex, England
If Valentine’s Day calls for something celebratory, this English rosé fizz is a wonderful place to start. Made from Pinot Meunier grown in Sussex by Dermot and Ana Sugrue, who are members of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain, meaning they follow methods of vineyard management that work in harmony with nature rather than rely on heavy spraying, and have also constructed bird and bat boxes in the hedges and woodland around the vineyard. This is a beautifully expressive sparkling wine that balances flavour with a genuine love for the place where it is made.
Delicate pink in colour, it offers aromas of wild strawberry, red apple and gentle floral notes, with a fine, persistent mousse and a crisp, refreshing finish. There’s a lovely savoury edge beneath the fruit that keeps it grown-up and food-friendly.
Perfect as an aperitif, or with smoked salmon, soft cheeses or a simple sharing board to start the evening.

Edouard Brun 1er Cru Réserve Brut NV
Champagne, France
Few things say “Valentine’s Day” quite like Champagne, and this is a classic, quietly confident bottle from a family grower in the Montagne de Reims. Edouard Brun specialise in Pinot Noir-led Champagnes, and this Premier Cru cuvée delivers both richness and finesse.
Expect ripe orchard fruit, brioche and toasted almond notes, balanced by a fine acidity and long, elegant finish. It’s indulgent without being heavy, making it ideal for lingering conversations and second glasses.
A brilliant choice if you’re cooking something a little more special like roast chicken, mushroom dishes, or even a simple but luxurious omelette.

Chablis, Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fèvre 2023
Burgundy, France
There’s something especially fitting about a Valentine’s Day wine made by a husband-and-wife team making love a key component in the finished product. Nathalie and Gilles Fèvre craft their Chablis with care and precision, allowing the purity of the fruit and the classic Chablis terroir to shine.
This 2023 vintage is fresh, vibrant and mineral-driven, with notes of citrus peel, green apple and a subtle saline edge. Clean and precise, but far from austere, it’s a wine that feels calm, confident and beautifully balanced.
Ideal with oysters, scallops, fish dishes or a creamy pasta. Proof that romance doesn’t have to be loud to be memorable.

Pasión de Bobal, DO Utiel-Requena 2023 (Organic)
Valencia, Spain
For something a little more soulful and warming, this organic Bobal from old vines in Utiel-Requena is a fantastic Valentine’s red. Made from low-yielding vines, it shows just how expressive and elegant Bobal can be when handled with care.
Juicy red and black fruits lead the way, followed by subtle spice, gentle structure and a fresh, balanced finish. It’s generous without being heavy, and deeply satisfying without feeling showy.
Perfect for a cosy dinner at home, think roasted vegetables, lamb, rich tomato-based dishes or a sharing platter by candlelight.
